Insurance Protection Rating

(ISO)

Stonewall VFD Rating 5Y

The Insurance Services Office (ISO) assigns a Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating to fire departments and their communities to assess how well they are prepared to fight fires. The rating is a number between 1 and 10, with 1 being the best and 10 indicating that the area's fire suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum standards. The rating is based on four main criteria, with the following percentages of the total score coming from each:

Fire department quality
50% of the score is based on the quality of the local fire department, including staffing levels, training, and how close the firehouse is.
Water supply
40% of the score is based on the availability of water, such as the number of fire hydrants and how much water is available to fight fires.
Emergency communications
10% of the score is based on the quality of the area's emergency communications systems, such as 911.
Community outreach
5.5% of the score is based on community outreach, such as fire prevention and safety courses.
